APICA Summer Internship Program is to provide college students and recent graduates who are dedicated to public service a substantive, meaningful work and educational experience in the California State Legislature, with a goal towards creating and promoting a growing cohort of Capitol staffers and advocates.

The Asian Pacific Islander Capitol Association (APICA) is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of legislative staffers, advocates, and other API professionals based in the State Capitol community of Sacramento, California.

Requirements Of APICA Summer Internship Program for International Students:

Ø  Current college student or recent graduate who is at least 21 years old at the time the internship begins.

Ø  Available to work full-time for the duration of the 10-week internship program.

Duration and Reward.

Ø  Interns receive a stipend of $4,960 for the ten-week period. These funds will be provided twice a month, contingent on the successful completion of the program and its academic components.

Ø  Week-long orientation, professional and skill development sessions, dedicated mentorship, and access to the APICA network of staff and elected officials

Ø  Personal Statement

ü  Prompt: We are interested in learning about you, your aspirations, and your interest in becoming an APICA summer intern. Please discuss how your cultural background has helped shape your identity and/or worldview.

ü  The format must be 1-inch margins, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and must not exceed one page.

ü  Please proofread your statement, as grammatical or typographical errors will weaken your application

Ø  Policy Interest Statement

ü  Prompt: Please discuss and demonstrate your passion for public policy and level of interest in eventually working as a staffer in the Capitol.

ü  The format must be 1-inch margins, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and must not exceed one page.

ü  Please proofread your statement, as grammatical or typographical errors will weaken your application.

Ø  Resume, not to exceed one page.

Ø  Official or unofficial transcript(s) from each college or university attended

Method of Application.

Selection Process

Ø  Application deadline: February 24, 2023 at 11:59pm PST.

Ø  Virtual interviews for select candidates: Friday, March 31 to Friday, April 7, 2023.

Ø  Acceptance notification: Monday, April 10th, 2023.

Ø  Internship start date: Monday, June 19th, 2023.

Ø  Internship end date: Friday, August 25th, 2023.

Ø  There is optional extension for interns seeking employment in the Capitol community, subject to agreement with the host office and the APICA board.
